Together, the former Premier League players have claimed fifteen big honors and moved for total transfer sums of around £123 million.

Household Names and Global Stars

Stephen Ireland started turning out for the side during pre-season this summer through close mate and current team teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland midfielder then asked additional former professionals, who all compete in a weekly small-sided game, to join in.

"It's a little unusual but then, I love sprinting and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"The running is what I'm seeking. It's good fun."

'Surreal Feeling

In addition to Cisse's six goals on debut, Ireland has netted eight in three appearances for the side, while Boyd hit 5 on his first appearance and Lescott, a centre-half by position, scored a triple in one match as a striker.

Wythenshawe are leading of the Premier Division with three victories from three and a GD of +19.

Paul Barrow, 38, who features on the wing for the opposition, faced former Latics full-back Figueroa on the weekend - and had to tell his nine-year-old son who Emile Heskey was.

He has played at two global tournaments for his country, in addition to playing in more than 200 top-flight matches.

"The news was spreading like a rumor they had all these ex-Premier League players," said Barrow.

"I think I was a bit awestruck playing against Figueroa to be honest.

"Even Heskey came on and he's has 60-odd England caps.

"We competed well for a good twenty minutes but then we had a man dismissed and it was tough.

"We literally have not ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mother and sibling on the way home.

"The opponents were all really nice, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a bunch of normal fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second match."
